Postliberalism
Questions whether liberal individualism and market-centered institutions can sustain common goods, social obligations, and durable communities. Contemporary proposals seek political institutions that shape economic and cultural life toward a substantive account of the good.
Reference boundary: The label has different intellectual histories. Criticism of market liberalism does not establish support for theocracy or rejection of democracy.
Foundational doctrines
- Common goods
- Critique of liberal individualism
- Socially embedded obligation
Disagreement and variation
Who defines the common good, and what protects people who reject that definition? Localist, democratic, and more coercive religious versions diverge, so a single authoritarian or economic position cannot represent the entire label.
Numerical positions in the interactive model are editorial reference estimates, not scientifically validated measurements.
